Shutter Speed and the Camera

TV dial : (shutter priority mode)

  • you are controlling only your shutter speed
  • The shutter speed is located in the camera it self and not the lens
  • Shutter Speed is how long the cameras  shutter is open when taking a photograph

How Shutter Speed is Measured
  • Shutter speed is measured in seconds and fractions of seconds
    • As a fraction of a second (1/4000)
    • As a Whole second  (1, 2, 3)

  • Shutter Speed shown on back of camera

  • The camera will control the aperture.
    • You can no longer change it.
    • When you change your shutter speed your aperture changes also

  • The bigger the denominator the faster the speed (1/1000 is much faster than 1/10)
  • The longer the shutter is open the more light gets in
