You will learn how to use layers by building a hamburger and ice cream cone

Step 1

  •  Go to
    •  File
      • New

Step 2

  • Change pixels to INCHES
    • Width 15 Inches (NOT pixels)
    • Height 25 Inches (NOT pixels)
      • Resolution 72
        • Background Color White

Step 3

  • You now have a blank white canvas
    • You be using this to build your hamburger and ice cream on

Step 4

  • Open the Hamburger or Ice Cream file
    •  File
      • Open

Step 5

  • Go to Downloads
    • Pick hamburger layers.psd
      • or
    • Ice Cream layers.psd

Step 6

  • A file will open with parts of a hamburger and/or ice cream

The LAYERS pallete

Everytime you do something to an image in photoshop it will show up in the layers section.

It is a visual record of the steps you do in photoshop.

Step 7

  • Find the Layers for the Hamburger or ice cream
  • The File will have different layers with different ingredients
    • Each layer is conncected to an ingredient in the Hamburger or Ice Cream  
      • The layers  have been named for you.
        • Ex Bun, Lettuce, cone

Step 8  :  Moving the ingrediants

  • Pick the Move tool (top left)
    • Click on the ingredient you want to move first
      • When you click on the ingredient you will notice it’s activated in the layers pallete
        • Click the layer
          • Hold and drag the ingredient over to the blank canvas

Step 9:  Layer Order

  • The ingredient that is on the bottom of the layers pallete, will be underneath all the other ingredients (Ex Bottom Bun)
    • To move the bottom bun in front of the other ingredients
      • Click on the Bottom Bun Layer
        • Drag the Bottom Bun Layer to the top of the layers pallet

                     

  • You can move any layer to the top or bottom of your hamburger
    • Ex lettuce is moved ontop of the other ingredients

Step 10:

  • When your hamburger is built you will Flatten all the layers into one
    • Right Click the Background Layer
      • Choose Flatten Image
        • You will now have ONE layer

     

 

Step 11:  Saving the File

  • File
    • Save As
      • Pick Downloads (or any other folder you would like)
      • Name it and click ok.

 Hamburger 1

  • Create a Hamburger with 8-20 ingredients.  This can be a small burger or a crazy large one.
  • You MUST have
    • The plate on the bottom
    • The bottom bun on the bottom of the burger
    • The top bun on the top of the burger
      • Anything else inside may go in any order

Ice Cream Cone

  • Create an ice cream cone with the following in ingredients in the following order.
    • A Cone
    • 3 Flavors of Ice Cream
    • Melting Drip under bottom of ice cream
    • Sauce
    • Sprinkles
    • Cherry or Strawberry
